2020 began on a rather grim note with uncertainty, division and anxiety. A novel coronavirus has caused a global outbreak of respiratory disease, the rapidly rising cases creating an international cause for concern. At this point, while the anxiety is understandable, we can also take heart that we can draw experiences from the past! Back in 2003 when SARS struck Singapore, many people were regrettably caught off guard. A sombre shroud hung over the entire island. We had only two physical stores back then, one of which was at United Square, near Tan Tock Seng Hospital and its Communicable Disease Centre. With TTSH designated as the central hospital for SARS cases, people avoided the area and many retail and F&B businesses took a beating. People still needed to eat though and we found customers stocking up on our Take-Home Soup Packs as a nutritious staple in their homes!
Today, we are so grateful for the dedicated healthcare workers who are toiling round the clock to care for the sick, the specialists who are fighting against time to screen and investigate, our government who has so efficiently worked out measures in our interests. Let’s count our blessings and be a blessing to others too!
As individuals, we can do our part in keeping personal hygiene like frequent hand-washing and wearing a mask if we are unwell. Nutrition is not to be undermined too.
